Rotorua MP Todd McClay says that the Government's $1.7 million investment in Crankworx over the next 5 years will result in unprecedented exposure for Rotorua internationally.

The Crankworx event attracted a global TV audience of more than 6 million people last year and that figure is expected to increase significantly this year.

There is a very positive feeling around Rotorua at the moment. The local economy continues to trend upwards, there’s more investment happening, more houses and commercial buildings popping up, and town was buzzing over the weekend as the best mountain bike riders in the world came to town.

Summer is here and Rotorua is starting to heave with holiday-makers and visitors enjoying the many things we have to offer. It's certainly been a busy year that's gone by quickly. With Christmas tomorrow and the year drawing to a close, for many it’s time to take a break and reflect on all that has been achieved.

There is a really positive mood around town, for good reason. Our economy continues to grow, investment in the region continues to increase, there are more houses and commercial buildings being built, and our tourism industry is having one of its best years for some time.

Last Sunday I received a call from the Prime Minister to offer me the role of Minister of Trade. It’s a huge portfolio which is very important for the Bay of Plenty (we are a trading region) and New Zealand. Whilst a little daunting, I can’t wait to get stuck in.

Unnecessary red tape and bureaucracy can be tiresome. Whilst there will always be some paperwork involved with dealing with Councils and government departments, where possible this should be kept to a minimum.

Exams have started and the hard work of the last year is about to pay off. Over the next four weeks all over our city hundreds of students will sit NCEA and Cambridge exams. Nerves, a bit of stress, but I’m sure relief await those who have worked hard and persevered.
